The Financial Impacts for Florida

During her first ten months in office, CFO Sink has engaged experts in formal conversations on Climate Change and its impacts to Florida through a series of workshops with the Florida Cabinet. Heard on national radio and quoted in the Wall Street Journal on climate risk, CFO Sink is a leader on this topic.

As Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Sink has direct oversight of $20 billion in Treasury assets and shared oversight of the $140 billion pension fund. In addition, the CFO is the regulator of insurance agents and agencies, oversees the offices of insurance regulation and financial regulation as a Florida Cabinet member, and holds the title of State Fire Marshal.

CFO Sink’s financial background allows her to contribute most to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change by clearly identifying the financial impacts and opportunities presented to our state by this economic threat.

CFO Sink’s focus is exploration and action in three areas:
  • The links between climate change and insurance;

  • Investment opportunities in emerging markets as the clean energy and green technology sectors grow and

  • Climate risk disclosure for investors.

CFO Sink invites you to join her for a discussion of the state of Florida’s business and finances in the face of climate change. Experts in green building, photovoltaics and solar power will be with us to share experiences from other corporations and states. With a focus on the long-term economic growth and health of our state, your presence and participation will make a valuable contribution to Florida.
